Charles Roberts of Leeds
« on: Saturday 29 December 12 00:13 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information about the parents and grandparents of Charles Roberts, born Leeds 1861, died Leeds 1905, and who was a founding member of the Independent Labour Party.

What (I think) I know so far:

Father: John Roberts born 1819 London, bootmaker
Mother: Mary Whitaker born 1822 Leeds (I have details of her parents)
Married 30/9/1841 Kirkstall
Deaths: Unknown

Grandfather: Edward Roberts (as named on certificate of above marriage)

The main problem getting any further is that the names are very common and I cant be sure what information is correct.

The 1871 has only one entry for a Charles Roberts b Leeds in the timescale

born 1861 - parents Joseph & Ann

If his assumed parents married in 1841 - Charles was born 20 yrs after they married.

Who did Charles marry and what is the name of the father on his marriage cert

Some of the books for Leeds in 1861 are missing :

3388    West Yorkshire    Leeds    West Leeds (3)    Leeds NW Ward    M

At the moment it looks as though the family could have been in the ones affected - I can't find them either, keyboard ?

Kind regards,

Pels.
