I'm trying to trace my heritage back, and it seems I've hit a roadblock in Audley/Staffordshire. my great, great, great, great grandfather was George Burgess born 1793 in Staffordshire, died 1877 in Colchester, Nova Scotia, Canada. George's father's name was John Burgess and his mother's name was Mary Corn. John and Mary were married in Staffordshire. This is all the information I've been able to find this far back. Any help would be much appreciated.

try looking at Cheshire records... Burgess' within Audley Parish could have lived in Butt Lane, which is on the staffordshire / Cheshire border, so although living in Butt Lane Staffordshire, could have records registered in Cheshire... does that make sense??
Smith, Archer, Hilditch, Boulton, Boote, Wootton, Staffordshire and Cheshire

This is my first post on the Forum.     I’ve been researching my ancestral roots over a number of years, I’ve found myself with. More time on my hands to investigate avenues.    I am a Burgess by birth and having chased back my roots to the Audley Burgesses after a couple of dead ends searches.

In my tree George is my 3rd Great Granduncle

I believe that George Burgess (1793 to 1877) was Born in Audley 11th September 1793 to John Burgess (1753-1810) and Mary Cain/Corn (1765-1831).

There is a headstone in the St James the Great Churchyard Audley, amongst a cluster of Burgess graves.    George is believed to have married Jane Moody (1797-1833) in Halifax Nova Scotia  in 1826.   She is Canadian  by birth.

The went on to have 9 children including a Coolingwood and Nelson amongst others.

The father of John Burgess was Samuel Burgess 1720 to 1774.   His father was William Burgess 1683 to 1732.  William Burgess spouse was Ellen Brown 1687 to 1729.    The spouse of Samuel Burgess is a little more confusing.   We know it’s a Mary, but there’s a Emberton or Lawton quoted as being Samuels spouse.

I hope this helps.
