Sprint Family, Lurgan- Portadown
« on: Wednesday 26 December 12 13:35 GMT (UK) »
My name is David Dunne, and I am researching on behalf of a relative with surname Forbes, who is a direct descendant of the Sprint family, from Portadown/Lurgan. Other surnames that are found in my research are: Dixon, Preston,Hadden, McGibben, Fetrick. My relative's parents were Thomas Forbes and Mary (Minnie) Sprint, who were living in Lurgan in 1911. It would seem that there may have also been a family connection in Aberdeen, Scotland. Any info may help me to help my relative.

Welcome to Rootschat.

My relative's parents were Thomas Forbes and Mary (Minnie) Sprint, who were living in Lurgan in 1911.
Here the 1911 census link- living in Portadown not Lurgan in 1911:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Armagh/Portadown_Urban/Flowerence_Court/299430
Thomas Forbes was born in County Monaghan.

In 1901 Eliza Sprint, daughter Minnie, son-in-law Thomas Forbes, and another daughter Isabella Allen are still in same stree (if not same house):

Added- Isabella Allen also listed here in 1901:

Isabella Allen with husband Thomas in 1911:

Thank you "aghadowey" - amazingly fast response. I now know that I am on the right track. How would you best advise that I get in touch with others with a similar interest. Only just started using Rootschat - and finding the process a little user-unfriendly. Regards. David Dunne

If you use the search facility on this site and search for Sprint in Armagh you should find a post I started for user Corsamjz, they are connected to the Sprint and Preston family.

Hope you find a connection with them.

My great-grandmother Elizabeth Ann SPRINT was the eldest sister of your Minnie SPRINT. There is quite a lot of detail already on the site as mentioned by aljepeka, and I have some detail on the Canadian, American, Australian and New Zealand branches.

Thanks for the info - my cousin (who I am researching for) will be delighted to find out more as he knows almost nothing of his family background. I will delve deeper into the files and feedback if any thing more of interest to you comes up. Regards - David Dunne
