controlling Google
« on: Wednesday 26 December 12 13:35 GMT (UK) »
(a) I think the new site layout and facilities and colours are a huge improvement - well done and thank you Trystan, do not be depressed by the shallow minded negative comments; you done good!

(b) nothing to do with the changes: Google knows I am in Bulgaria so insists on translating what it can on my search results into Bulgarian (which is largely unintelligble to me as it rarely relates to shopping, alcohol or road directions).  I have tried to change my location but it only offers me the possibility of other Bulgarian locations. Does anyone know how I can make it deliver content in English please?

Does it make any difference if you go to advanced search and change the location you wish your results to come from?

I know that google have been 'fiddling' with this, and now, for every single google search you make, you need to go through the palaver of going to advanced search and then selecting your location if you want results from a specific country. The default appears to be the USA.  :P

There used to be a box to the side of your searches where you could easily change location, but now you have a couple of extra steps to go through, which is tiresome if you are doing a lot of googling. A most unwelcome, time consuming and annoying change.

I am not sure if this is related to the problems you are having, or if it will 'fix' it though. Good luck.

Thanks everyone, but no progress, it seems that my ip address is the problem though. I will try asking them to set my ip address to treat me as though I am in UK (though they say it may take them a month implement it)

do a search on google, on the page of results on the top right you should get a settings box. if you click on that you have the option to change your location. im in oz but have it set for the uk and it works no probs

Thanks Perth Tiger, but it will only let me change to another Bulgarian town or post code.

Well I have tried using their link to report an ip address problem, but it does not let me report what my problem is!

I don't know whether this will help in your case, but in "Search Settings" I changed the "Language" option to English, and this seems to work for me in France.  There's a sub-heading "Which other languages would you like to see in your search results?", where you can deselect everything except English.

(I haven't changed my location.)
