Peachey from Suffolk
« on: Tuesday 25 December 12 10:03 GMT (UK) »
This is like looking for a needle in a haystack but here goes.

I have a George Edward Peachey born about 1835 somewhere in Suffolk. He died in Australia in 1892. His parents are listed as George and Elma. I have not been able to find when or where he came to Australia. :D :D :D

If your George was born c1835 it is likely his father was born somewhere between say 1790-1815

How about these as potential fathers & try working forward

George Peachey age 36 buried 27 Aug 1837 Barrow
George Peachey age 67 buried 30 Jun 1873 Mildenhall
George Pechy age 75 buried 1 Apr 1890 Brandon
All from the Suffolk Burial Index (it does not cover all parishes in the County)

Then I have found these marriages (Suffolk Marriage Index)
George Peachey(wd)/Rose Leach(wd) 28 Apr 1818 Mildenhall
George Peachey/Mary Gooday 13 Jan 1822 Barrow (Could be the George Peachey buried 1837 Barrow?)
George Peachey/Eliza Wing 10 Mar 1831 Mildenhall
George Peachey/Susan Cox 15 Sep 1835 Worlington

Did George use any of the female names above for his children?  Could Elma have been Eliza?

1851

HO107 1793 174 37

Has an Edward and Ella Peac hey in Mildenhall, and numerous children incl George bn 1835ish, at least that is what it is transcribed as

Could father George E  be known as Edward, and Ella and Elma be the same?

Though I have just looked at the image and to me it is clearly Eliza!

Hi

I also checked few a trees, there were George's b. between 1831 and 1833, the owners stated it wasn't the Mildenhall George who went to Australia... Though as Liz and Kez found, there are plenty to choose from!

... and they have evidence?

I am wary of info on others trees unless backed up.

I have found incorrect 'evidence' on a number of trees - but it was just one person who got it wrong and everyone else copied it!

I checked the Suffolk Burial Index for an Elma Peachey (& variations of both names) no Elma/Alma/Ella/Emma Peachey burial listed on there that could tie in with the dob of George but as I said it does not cover all parishes in the County.

I did find this one
Amasa Peachey buried 7 Dec 1834 age 55, Mildenhall.

There is a very high concentration of the name Peachey in the Mildenhall area of Suffolk.  A few dotted around in other nearby parishes quite a lot in Lakenheath as well.

Good luck

Hi

Sorry, I should have made myself more clear re. the trees. I agree that some of them get out of hand with a snowball effect of copying. In this case it was a particular George Peachey, b. abt. 1830 Mildenhall, (some had the birth up to 1833) death was reg. in 1860 aged 29, New South Wales. Owners pointed out it wasn't the George Peachey who died 1892, Bathurst, Australia. Both sources are checkable, including the one I supplied in an earlier post.
