Buried Where?
« on: Monday 24 December 12 12:27 GMT (UK) »
Hello

A lady died in the 1940s at Fairmile House  Christchurch, possibly a hospital of some kind.  Her address was Sandbanks Dorset.  Can anyone enlighten me as to where she may have be buried please, in order for me to search for a burial?

Many thanks
Ewan

Jumpers Road, Christchurch, Dorset, BH23 2JT seems to be the address of fairmille house...  maybe go to google maps and have a look at your kins address and the address and have a look at cemeteries in concentric circles outwards from both places????

Hi, I'm pretty sure that by the 1940's Christchurch workhouse was a hospital. Sandbanks is in Poole so I would start looking for a burial in the Poole area rather than Christchurch. They are a few miles apart and were in different counties at the time. Poole was in Dorset and Christchurch was in Hampshire. It may make a difference to where you search.

fast fusion thanks for your suggestion, sometimes there are people that are local to these areas and they would have more of an idea than an outsider (me) where a possibly burial place may have been.  I know when I have helped others with this sort of question I can offer local knowledge.

Thank you Carol for your 2 links, that was an interesting post with someone else with connections to Fairmile House, also the piece about whether it was in Hampshire or Dorset.

Thank you abelmabel for your suggestion, I think a very important point.  This lady lived, as mentioned, Sandbanks Dorset and died at Christchurch, so more possible a burial in her home town to be looked for first I think.
