military enlistment
« on: Thursday 20 December 12 22:42 GMT (UK) »
Need help to find enlistment details of an ancestor, Private Robert Watson, born c1838 possibly London. Joined the South Staffordshire Regiment of Foot (the 38th) in c1855. Awarded Crimean Medal and later the Indian Mutiny medal after serving at Lucknow.
Hoping his enlistment records might provide his birth date and place etc.
Regards Sojar

FindMyPast has British Army Records - have you looked there?

The name Robert Watson isn't exactly uncommon!
There are 4 reported as being born c1837:
Lanark, Lanarkshire
Newcastle Upon Tyne
Strabane, Tyrone
Rathdrum, Wicklow

And there are another 48 with unknown birth details. ::)
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)
