As a computer programmer of the mid 1980s (does anyone remember COBOL?) and as someone involved in IT implementations for over 15 years, I can only marvel at how well the changeover has been effected.

Remember COBOL? I still use it!!

can I ask for another small change please  :)

On the Mobile site, can we also have a link to the full site at the top of the page.  It takes ages to scroll through to the bottom to the page on a small screen.

A Big thanks to all those behind the scenes to make this happen... glad they didn't do what usually happens in my last big company on project implimentation day... they all go on leave which left the rest of us running round like goodness knows what trying to put things right and take the flack.
Please acknowledge when a restorer works on your photos, it can take hours for them to work their magic

Please scan at 300dpi minimum to help save the restorers eyesight.

I suppose that makes you, me, Kiwi Girl, and Berlin-Bob a load of old COBOL'ers  ;D (sorry, couldn't resist it...)

Seriously though, thanks to Trystan and Sarah.

Hello jc26red...

Can I ask how you got to the Mobile site. There used to be a button in the top-right corner but I can no longer find it.

Thanks
Beg

That was causing a lot of problems for non-mobile users who clicked it by mistake, so Trystan removed it.

The software will recognise what type of computer is being used and set the style accordlingly, but it's possible that some hand-held devices will not be recognised.

Slight issue for me.  As a result of the format changes, the website symbol underneath the profile picture has changed from a globe (world wide web - geddit?) to a house (home page!!!).

On the webspace board I maintain a list of Rootschatter's family history websites.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,336023.0.html

In that I explain about going to people's sites by clicking the globe.  I now want to update that so it refers to clicking the house symbol.

I unlocked the thread, and found there was no modify button.  Is this because the posts pre-dated the look and feel change, or am I missing a trick?

BTW Already getting used to the new look.  If there's info that can be shared about how better the site is performing, that might help the doubters come to better terms with the changes?

With the new software you now have 24 hours to check your posts for typos etc.
After that they can't be modified.

Julian, I will PM you :)

I haven’t had much time to be active online for the past couple of days, but my initial reaction last night to the updates was “I like it!”  My second reaction was “It’ll give me some good brain exercise adjusting to the changes. (And we all know that brain exercise is good for us!)

So far the only thing that’s giving me grief is the colour of the topic headings……that light brownish shade is not good for eyes that have a problem.

I must echo the thanks that people have been posting to Trystan and Sarah for providing Rootschat and putting so much time into it – I don’t know what I’d do without it!    :)
