Far too much wasted space on pages, calling for too much scrolling. (For instance, there is no need for the left-hand column with usernames and avatars to be so wide: everything in that column could be smaller, freeing up more monitor width for the actual content, which is what people are interested in.)
I just wanted to expand on that.
I downsize by one control-minus (because I find big font ugly, and usually, doing that means more content can be seen on the monitor).
In the old version, changing the font size did not change the size of the content portion -- i.e. did not narrow the content / increase the width of the grey borders. Try it here (a thread still visible in old version):
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,623059.0.htmlAnd then try it on the page you are reading. Upsize a couple of levels, and downsize a couple of levels.
In the new version, downsizing the font actually narrows the content.
You can see how in the old version, the width of the content stays the same, as the font size is reduced, and more content is visible on the screen -- while in the new version, the content area narrows when the font size is reduced, creating the totally wasted space in the grey bands on the screen and showing very little more content, since the content now takes up more vertical space per line of text.
I imagine this is not something likely to change (I am familiar with the phenomenon from another board and it is likely an inherent structural thing) but it sure isn't welcome at this end!
