Forgot to say, something else I like is when receiving an e-mail notification of a PM it shows the first line of the PM (well it might show more, but the one I received was only a one line comment).  It must be my age, but whenever I get notification of a PM, I think I've done something wrong  :( so it's lovely to see part of the PM before I open it.

UPDATE:

Dark Grey side panels gone.

Paper-pulp textured side panels now in.

Press the function key F5 to see it.

Wow.....thanks Trystan.    We're learning so much about our PCs and RC via this thread.
(I have never used F5 before ::))

Brilliant :)
Best wishes HL

The new Rootschat was a bit of a "shock", but I'm sure that I'll get used it over the next few days!

However, one or two comments/questions (apologies if these have already been covered on this thread, but I really don't have the time to read through 37 pages!).

1)  Have had to log in twice now - despite checking the "Always Stay Logged In" option.

2)  Computer has frozen twice in the last ten minutes whilst reading this thread (may be coincidence, but have not had any problems on other sites today).

3)  On county boards (where I mainly hang out), there no longer seems to be anything showing a "Topic You Have Posted In".

Just went into Chat, interested that there are 11 people in there  ::) then I couldn't get out again, so had to close down Roots and re-open.  I'm sure there's some way back out, although I won't go in again as I don't have time to spend chatting. ;D ;D

Ditto Lizzie - first time in 5 years I've been able to access the Chat room.
It works for me now thanks to Trystan's update so there's certainly a bonus or two to the upgrade.
I also had to logout from the chatroom and re select RC in Favourites - but I was still signed in on RC so no real problem.

Hi Pennie,
1) I'll have to watch the "logged in" thing - although I don't think I've had to re-log in myself yet.
2) I think that your computer freezing is likely to be a coincidence - but I'm often wrong.
3) That is something that we are going to bring back, where you can tell the topics you've posted in on a board index (they used to be in yellow).

Far too much wasted space on pages, calling for too much scrolling. (For instance, there is no need for the left-hand column with usernames and avatars to be so wide: everything in that column could be smaller, freeing up more monitor width for the actual content, which is what people are interested in.)

I just wanted to expand on that.

I downsize by one control-minus (because I find big font ugly, and usually, doing that means more content can be seen on the monitor).

In the old version, changing the font size did not change the size of the content portion -- i.e. did not narrow the content / increase the width of the grey borders. Try it here (a thread still visible in old version):

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,623059.0.html

And then try it on the page you are reading. Upsize a couple of levels, and downsize a couple of levels.

In the new version, downsizing the font actually narrows the content.

You can see how in the old version, the width of the content stays the same, as the font size is reduced, and more content is visible on the screen -- while in the new version, the content area narrows when the font size is reduced, creating the totally wasted space in the grey bands on the screen and showing very little more content, since the content now takes up more vertical space per line of text.

I imagine this is not something likely to change (I am familiar with the phenomenon from another board and it is likely an inherent structural thing) but it sure isn't welcome at this end!

Definitely not a complaint just a query

I don't visit the chat room - since my one and only incursion when I was very new - so how do I have 13 replies showing - what is more interesting is that I had fourteen a little while ago!  ;D ;D ;D

I'm not going there to find out!    ;D :D

A very Happy Christmas and thanks for the new 'present'!  8)  If I said this before  it was many pages ago and you may have forgotten like I  have!   ;)

The CHAT (12) is showing the number of people logged into the ChatRoom - not the number of messages/replies that you have
