The funny old thing about human nature and resistance to change is that in 5, 7, or whatever number of years time that the next big refresh of the website takes place, people will invariably look back and comment fondly on the new look revealed today!  :)

To repeat the post I made yesterday.  IMHO, we need to give the new RootsChat time, continue to raise valid issues about how it works and not make posts which will look rather silly in a few years time.

On other forums that I frequent (not genealogical ones, I might add), the forum somehow remembers where I'd got to in the individual threads.

Now "tried and tested" ...

If I am looking at something in the "New replies" list and I click on the title, I get taken to the first or last reply, depending how I set that in my profile

Now if anybody asks, I can tell them what to do, but I've only just learnt that myself today, thanks to Nick's comment :)

Thanks for that, Bob.  I think we all suffer from a very similar syndrome - we know the position of the buttons that we use on a regular basis, rather than the names of the buttons themselves.  Rather like entering your PIN at the cash machine - your brain remembers the pattern of the keys, rather than the numbers.  I'm sure when we all get more familiar with the layout, our enjoyment will improve  :)

RIP 1949-10th January 2013

Best Wishes,  Nick.

I've just been on a page that is still in the old format, and this reminded me what used to be less than satisfactory:- the little leaves :-\, also the width. With my varifocals, I found myself having to move my head from side to side in order to read a whole line, whereas now I can read it comfortably!! ;) I actually like the grey margin - a nice restful colour that does not intrude once you get used to it.

I am not a fan of the tall bold font, but it causes no great offence, and I am sure I will get used to it. It was a real revelation going back, and has convinced me that this is much better :). Funny but I was convinced that the site had a yellow background in the old days ::)

May I please suggest that the print colours on the title of the post and the "started by etc" on the list of unread posts be reversed.  Before the changes, the colours drew the eye straight to the post title, now I have to work hard to see the title which is the bit I am interested in.
Generally though, I'm impressed, well done. Happy Christmas to all.

I've now fixed a small bug - you can now (again) see your own posts under "Profile". Phew.

That's brilliant trystan, and even better, the options of messages, topics and attachments can be separated, or have I missed that before?

Max, that is my view also.  It's the subject in brown that I find disconcerting.

I have never tried 'new' either, I usually click on the later numbers to reach newest pages.
Another good tip coming out of all this discussion :)
Thanks to Nick and Bob.

See, I'm not always complaining ;)

Thank you Trystan, Sarah and all involved in the creation of the new look!  In general, I feel that everything works very well.  There are a couple of things I haen't found yet, but that's probably me not looking carefully enough  ;)

One query, is it necessary to have the 'new' after the names of counties on the main navigation page?  The bold/light font system is still in place doing the same function, so to also have 'new' is a bit of an overkill.

Apologies if this has already been raised and answered - I haven't read the whole thread  :-[
