Stupid question .... but it's something I've never been able to work out ....
When someone says (as they did earlier on this thread), "see post #50" (for example), how do I know which is post 50? I can't see any numbers beside any of the replies.
[This is obviously not to do with the changes, just a general question]

Look at the top of each post....

You'll see the post title, then underneath it will say "Reply #123, posted today 9:45AM" (or something similar)  :)

At the top of a post it says "Reply #289" which in this case is the post where you asked this question.
(I think I'm right in saying, though, that this number may change if a post before it is deleted - for instance if someone mentioned the unmentionables - you know what I mean Ruskie ;))

How embarrassing - I can't believe I've never noticed that in all these years.  :-[
Thanks Nick and Dale.

All the different internet browsers have a setting where you can set preferred fonts and font sizes for the web pages that you view.  Just because the designer of a web page may consider that it's best viewed in Times New Roman and small size, you can still over-ride these choices in the settings of your web browser.  Just click on the Settings tab of the web browser that you are using - this applies to IE, Firefox and Chrome.

Isn't the point that we shouldn't be changing our browser settings (ie for all sites) just so we have a clearer RootsChat, if other sites aren't also a problem?

Earlier I asked my OH (not a RootsChatter and thus not familiar with old or new styles) to look at the "Unread" posts pages and say what caught the eye - the answer was the names of the "started by" poster as these were in bold blue and stronger than anything else. With due respect to all RootsChatters my feeling is that a poster's username is less important than the thread title (bold but palid brown) or the board name (blue italics).

My understanding of presentation styles has always been "less is more". On the "Unread" page there are three colours for text (black, brown and blue); three styles (bold, italic and standard) as well as several sizes and multiple icons and that is ignoring headings and borders and their contents. Overall the page has lost clarity and personally, I suspect I'm no longer taking in the important information of the topic itself.

It's big clunky, ugly and looks amateurish.
