Phew! Just read through 40+ pages.
Can I say? ...
Trystan please don't take people's complaints and criticisms personally.  We all know what an incredible job you and your team do (with or without bikkies as fortification).

My first reaction the other night was whaaaat!?
I didn't like the huge type - and note with amusement that others received it as tiny type.
And brown has never been my favorite colour.  But also found all the competing colours just that - competing.
But now lots of things have been ironed out and, with a bit of lateral thinking, we will all get used to them in time

However, I decided it was easier to PRINT to screen to read all those pages, and this threw me out of RC altogether so when I closed the print screen I didn't have access, whereas previously I could look at the print version and the onscreen version simultaneously.  Is it possible to get that back?  Or at least to let us stay on site when finished reading the print version?

It didn't log me out - I got back in by clicking the access thing on a notification email I still had.

Thanks for all your hard work

The poor appearance of the smaller red-brown font seems to be (for me) on Google CHrome and that at least appears OK on Firefox

Please see my post in the Tech forum on how to change the settings in the different browsers  :)

RIP 1949-10th January 2013

Best Wishes,  Nick.

Re: *Off Topic* What does everyone think of the new layout?

Very swish, but I had to re login to get to post.  Is it easier to use, those who've already had a good look around?  Or is it purely cosmetic - or has it made it worse??

Ho ho ho

 :)

Early days yet, but I have easily managed to navigate to where I needed so far.   :)

I think the new layout deserves more time - any early judgement of new against old is simply reflecting comparison of the unfamiliar with the familiar.

As a computer programmer of the mid 1980s (does anyone remember COBOL?) and as someone involved in IT implementations for over 15 years, I can only marvel at how well the changeover has been effected.

I remember COBOL - we had to learn BASIC and PASCAL - looks like the dark ages compared to now - my very own digital cave paintings  ;)

Yes: FORTRAN, COBOL, ALGOL, CORAL (a real time ALGOL), assembler (about 10 different kinds), etc, etc.

I work (when I'm not on RootsChat) for a company supplying large computer systems and my latest job area (for the last 10 years) is updating computer systems for our customers so I can (modestly) claim to know what it's like :)

I agree with gaffy that the changeover has gone very well and, from my professional experience, I wholeheartedly agree with this:

I suspect B-Bob and the other RC whizz kids have been working on this with Trystan .... or if not,  just how amazing IS Trystan sorting this all out by himself.    The man is a saint .... as are all the mods who have to put up with un-necessary aggro from some members of this truly wonderful site.

My congratulations and  :-* :-* :-* to all the team .... Merry Christmas !!   And get some rest all of you !

Trystan did all the work (he is amazing !) - the other mods just supplied encouragement - and Sarah provided the tea and biscuits.
