PS.  Don't want to complain too much as I think RootsChat is a wonderful idea, and say so to those I meet who have never heard of it, BUT, can I just say that I don't like the stars either.  Not as pretty as they were, a bit too deputy-like.

I'll shut up now.    :-[ :-X

Red post.     not exactly resistance to change gaffy, but it should be beneficial to the majority.

Do you like the "Top" button near the bottom that wizzes you to the top?
You can also search your personal messages now too. :)

Where's that then trystan?  Can't see it.

Not that I use it myself, I use the home button.

Scratch that, just noticed it but not very obvious, especially to anyone with dodgy eyesight, or colour blind.     Brown in Black?

Trystan and Sarah don't need me to answer for them but...

I imagine most of the real changes to the site have been behind the scenes, bringing the technology up to date. I've had a few quick looks around the site and with one exception,* everything that worked well before works just as well and in a very similar way to before. As for the different colours, fonts etc - it's often good just to refresh things from time to time and soon you won't even notice the difference. Personally I like the fonts and colours.

Having the information in a central page set against a background is a very normal solution these days, and ensures that the page displays correctly on a wide range of screens.

* The exception is the way the photos display in the restoration section -having to click on a thumbnail and then getting a picture constrained by scroll bars isn't a step forward, in my opinion but, again, it won't take long to get used to it and there may be good technical reasons why this was felt necessary.

So, just cruising around I find I have a query.

Why is it that if I take the MOBI option above I see everything spread wonderfully across the whole page?
Then there is a button taking one back to the full site, ie this one.

The other looks better on my 22" screen than this does, and in blue.  That grey at the side of this makes my screen look dirty, and yes I admit that there may be a little dust, but not that much ;)

(Haven't read all this thread so apologies if this is already covered)

Initially I found it hard to view the new site. However I found reducing the size to 90% makes it much easier for me to view. Just thought I would mention in case others were having difficulty to viewing and this may help them.

Thank you to the midnight workers for all their hard work on the new site.
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Thanks for all the hard work. I came to the site 18 minutes before it came back on line this morning UK time and I LOVED the countdown clock - a lovely touch.
Am just finding my way around having got back in but have to say in posting this reply I can read my typing more clearly so at the moment my font size on this laptop is good ( I need good size cos of my eyes.
Off to explore the rest of the site. This revamp should keep us all out of mischief in the lulls in the Christmas festivities :)
