Church Broughton tithe(?) records
« on: Tuesday 18 December 12 16:09 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Does anyone know if there are any accessible records from the 17th C for farm tithes/rents that were paid.  I believe that Church Broughton was part of the Duke of Devonshire's estate and am interested in seeing if an ancestor is mentioned in any documents that may have survived.

Thank you

Hi,

If you supply names and dates you may get more information.

The Dukes of Devonshire did not own all the Land in  Church Broughton as can be
seen from the 1847 Tithe Map & Appointment Book:-

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~laetoli/churchbroughtontitheapportionment.html

In 1694 William was created the 1st Duke of Devonshire, prior to this date their title was Earl of Devon.

Devonshire records can be accessed at Chatsworth House, cost is about £50 per day.

Another option is to discover who was the "lord of the Manor", then to see if any Manor Court Books have
survived.  If they have survived they may be at the County Record Office, Matlock, Derby.

This is connection to the Derbyshire RO catalogue:-
