Thanks for your help, I have this old clipping but it doesn't really sort it out - the son John is hardly still alive...

Theres only 1 Robert Collender showing in 1911. Farmer
House 2 Nicholastown Modelligo Waterford. Age 34 Single
Brother Hubert a. 27 single. Sister Mary 50 Single.

In all probability this is the Robert that married Mary Barron in 1914.
Whether they are your Collenders or not is the question :-\

Sure you have noted the address Nicholastown where Mary resided in the photograph. I think its probably the family. Unless John inherited his mams genes he is probably not still around

[quote ballydw - I think its probably the family.

Most likely although its a bit doubtful that Barron was her actual maiden name...

Do you have evidence to the contrary that Barron wasnt her maiden name?
It seems to be the only marriage for Collender that ties in with the Birth of Alice Collender

Also ties in with Collender family, Nicholastown in 1901 and 1911.

Death notice for a John Collender, Nicholastown in 2007-

If you search for 'collender & nicholastown' in a search engine like Google you will see contact details for other possible relatives.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Well only that there is no unmarried 30-something Mary Barron in the '11 census... so unless she married a bloke also called Barron it wasn't her maiden name, assuming she's recorded of course.

Hi, Mary Collinder's maiden name was Barron. Her father was James Barron from Knockboy. Her Mother was Mary Brien. There are two birth record's for Mary (Barron) Collinder, one dated 31st July 1877 and another to the same parents for 6th. of March 1882. I believe the first Mary didn't survive and another female child born five years later was given the same name.  That would have been a regular practice at that time. There appears to have been, in total 14 children between 1870 and 1891. Her Grand Mother was Kelly from Killenagh, Knockanore and when Mary's mother was born, in 1845, her Grand Mother's brother, Tom Kelly, and his wife were drowned crossing the Blackwater to the christening.

woww that's a mine of information, thanks a lot. So you're saying the 'real' Mary Collender was only 104, not 108... This looks like her in the '01 census, with the right age and the right parents:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Waterford/Dromore/Dromore/1772551/

and here in '11, albeit 2 years young:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Waterford/Dromore/Dromore/664791/

... where it states there were actually 15 children of whom 12 survived. Of course that explains why there was no maiden 33yo Mary Barron in 1911... I reckon only a close relative would know that ancient story about her grand-uncle so you might also be able to tell us if it she got the Centenarian bounty in 1977 ;D
