I can't find an obit for him as the Sydney Morning Herald only goes up to 1954 and he died in 1962. I don't have a death certificate for him as I would have to order one from Australia and it may take a while to get here.

I am not looking for his death date I am looking for his burial date

Re the post minnie/winnie

In 1901 the census show her as Winnie but by 1911 her name has changed to Marian.

Who is this Winnie? The baptism I have on 01/05/1892 shows she is baptised as Marian, her marriage is as Marian and her death is as Marian

From what I've read Minnie could be used as a pet name for Marion - I think the name the enumerator wrote was quite likely to be Minnie :

Hi Mark

Re: request for burial details.

As he did not die in Northumberland - we cannot help on this board

You have a request on the Australian board so I am sure if the info is available - somebody will help you

Re: possible marriage.  As already explained in my earlier replies, you would need either an obit notice or copy of the death cert in the hope it mentions a wife's name.

If you are able to establish whether he had any children - you could check freebmd to see if any details match.  Birth registrations from the September qtr 1911 include mother maiden name

Sorry - 1911 lookups are not allowed due to copyright issues

What Pels is saying is that the 1901 entry shows a child called either Minnie or Winnie who is the age that Marian would be.

She has also said that Minnie can be a corruption of the name Marian.  I researched for friend whose ancestor was Miriam and every census showed her as Minnie

Families didn't always stick to baptismal names on census entries.

Henry/Harold - often shown as Harry
Elizabeth - Lizzie/Betty/Betsy
John - Jack

And many more

I have just returned from a visit to the local archives. I looked at the original transcript for the 1901 census online for winnie/minnie and I compared it to another transcript with a similar writing style and I am pretty convinced that it said Minnie which I then googled and found out that this was a pet name for Marian

Many Thanks

I didn't miss your reply but until I saw it for myself and compared it to another sample of writing I still believed that it was Winnie

Many Thanks

Thank you everybody for your help on this topic. I now have Thomas Nicholas's death certificate from Australia and I can now close the research on this person as the certificate states that he was never married.

Many Thanks

Mark
