I am sorry that I am unable to help with this thread at the moment, due to some very pressing family matters. However, I have had a quick look at the NSW Electoral Roll for 1903 ..... yes, several decades after 1884. Perhaps the following info may be of help, or alas it may be a distraction.
NSW ER 1903 MACQUARIE, polling at Bathurst
McRAE, Alexander James, a clerk of William Street. NO others with that surname were enrolled to vote at that polling place. Within that electorate there were many other polling places. 1903 NSW ER includes males and females aged 21 years and over. It was NOT compulsory to enrol.
It could well be the middle of January 2013 before I am able to find the spare moments to help further with this search.
