Are you aware that there is a book written by Molly Akers titled "MacRaes to New Zealand"?  It may have something in it?

Dated 14.5.1897 in the 'Western Mail' & found under Rev. Wm. McRae.............

report of the drowning and ends with-

"had one daughter* who is a resident of New Zealand".
