South Australian lookup offers

Sorry about this Shanko I must be doing something wrong, I checked from Go to Whoa on the South Australian Lookups and did not find the answer, I have had many contacts from Roots Chat on this subject but none appertaining to my query.
Thanks a lot for your efforts, as an aside if the query is finished does it ever get deleted? just curious.

STOP PRESS, Regarding the Gillard Family I tried the site submitted on RootsChat by Spurling 1853 for the year 1847 the first ship was the ABOUKIR arriving Adelaide 4th September and among the passengers listed are Samuel, Margaret,Ann and a John Gillard, BINGO on the first three but John is a mystery at this time.

Im glad you found them, BUT the name is not in the indexes which is why I could not find them. I do not go to the records place much these days to go through the original shipping records as it is getting expensive for travelling otherwise I would have gone there to check for you
As I mentioned previously though its always better to check the originals as names are transcribed incorrectly and also members of a family have been known to be missing.

(sorry for posting this twice but I think it got buried among 4 requests or so)

I have ancestors (g-g-grandparents) William PAYNE (b. 1849) and Christina WARK (b. 1860), who made up a surname HAZLEMERE/HAZELMERE who married in 1882 in Sydney. The had a tiny old 'birthday motto book' which I inherited.

There is an entry in the Book 'left home for London and Australia July 31 1878' (I suspect this is Christina as it looks different to William's writing elsewhere in the book. On September 18 there are 2 entries -  Landed in Adelaide 1878, married 1879).

Christina's first child Olive (who survived to marry and have 14 children) was born around 1882. Officially Christina married William 31/10/1882 at St Peters in Darlinghurst, Sydney.

Thus I am wondering  which boats landed  in Adelaide  September 18 1878 and whether there was a William PAYNE (who I have some evidence was in Adelaide) or Christina WARK or HAZELEMERE on it, and a WARK  or HAZELMERE in a marriage in 1879 (or birth of Olive in 1882 who is not registered in NSW where the family was by late 1882.

Hi Shanko
Could you look in Inquests 1900-1945 for anything on the death of Barton Balfour FELTUS who died 15th Jan 1911 in Spring Hill Settlement (near Meningie),SA. Family say he drowned in a well -dont know if this is correct.

There is no Barton Balfour FELTUS in the indexes for Inquests. The only FELTUS is a Francis Charles in 1944 in Minnipa from a car Accident.

I'm after information on a ship called the "Ruby" which arrived in Adelaide in 1854. In particular one of the crew William Augustus SIMMONS, who was a teenager at the time and supposedly "jumped ship".

I did locate your guy in the SA Deserters Registers

Name: Simmonds William
Designation: Apprentice
Deserted: May 1854
Ship: 'Ruby'
Master (Captain): Turner
The 'Ruby' arrived in SA on the 22nd March 1854

There is no other details on the registers but there could be more details of him in the Archives.

I have had a find today which ties a Scottish relation to Australia. It is a marriage:

Dumfries and Galloway Newspaper 26th October 1872
Marriage
On the 23rd instant by the Rev. J. Fraser MA in Colvend. James MURRAY Esq. Daylesford Victoria Australia to Margaret only daughter of Mr. & Mrs. CURRIE, Barcloy.

I have been unable to find the death of Margaret Murray or Currie here and I now wonder if they emigrated to Victoria. She was born circa 1830 in Dumfriesshire Scotland, daughter of John CURRIE and Catherine CROSBIE.

I wonder if you could possibly look up to see if she or her husband are in the S Australian Deaths Index 1842-1915?

I was wondering if you could help me with the arrival from UK to SA of my PLACE family?
I have Isaac PLACE bc 1805-1815 d. Naracoorte 15 Dec 1894 (would like to find out parents names or place of birth or year/ship arrival in Australia)
His wife Mary Ann PLACE (nee JORDISON) was b 1816 Co Durham ENG, d Mt Gambier 29 Oct 1868 parents names unknown
They had 3 sons all born Gateshead, Co Durham NE ENG,
Isaac  bc 1835,
William bc 1837,
Thomas b 1842 and
maybe a 4th child Mary Ann b 1840.
I have found SA marriages and deaths for them but not how they arrived in Australia. There is no record of them arriving in Vic, NSW or Moreton Bay... On Isaac PLACE sn. death info on web it has Isaac Pierce PLACE as his name (not sure where the middle name Pierce comes from as I dont know where he was born or parents names only that 1841 census for Durham says he wasnt born in Durham)

 I hear SA death certs have little info on them, is that true, is there anyway of seeing a certificate or whats on it without buying one??
Their son Isaac PLACE b. 1835 d. 1906 Port Augusta m. Maria MALONY (dont know if they had chn??)
2nd son, William PLACE resided at Blinman SA and married Angelina SLADE (chn - Eliza, Henry Thomas, William) d. Adelaide 1870,
3rd son, Thomas PLACE is our line so I know he raised a family at Millicent m. Eliza CORNELL then sister Sarah Cornell then d. Portland 1925
The daughter Mary Ann - unsure what happened to her....
Anything you could tell me particularly on the shipping info or parents names of Issac would be much appreciated as Im at a bit of a lost end... Merry Christmas Shanko

Sorry Shanko, I should have mentioned the period of possible arrival in SA The son Thomas was born March 1842 in Durham ENG then eldest son Isaac married 4 Feb 1860 at Res of Mr McClue [Culloch Glen], South Australia.

late 1842 -  start of 1860 is a huge time period and Ive been searching what online passenger lists I can find and some SA microfiche at the Perth library with no luck... so if its too hard thats OK...

The original certificates can only be viewed at the individual districts. I can obtain those details if those districts are close to me. So as your deaths being in Pt Augusta there is not a chance I can help you there as that is hours away.
