Hi would you please look up James Lowe in A Free Passage to Paradise: Passenger lists of United Kingdom Emigrants to South Australia 1836 - 1840
and Colonial residents of South Australia 1839 - 1848.

He had a daughter Annie in Sydney about 1840. Sometime within the following 22 years his wife died and he went back to London and from their to South Africa with his children.

Thanks, Laverdiere

Hi Ros

Ok I went through the fiche and cd for births and could find no trace of the surname Byfield.

regarding George Henry I checked both the cd and fiche and here you go:

George Henery BASHAM
Birth date : 25/9/1865
Father : Charles Abraham BASHAM
Mother : Catherine Frances HUSSEY
Birth Place/Residence : Port Elliot
District : EnB
Volume: 39
Page : 250

The information is confirmed on both cd and fiche.

Hope that helps

Laverdiere

I found a James LOWE on the Free Passage to Paradise index

James LOWE
Application # 3162

In the Colonial Residents of South Australia I did find some James LOWEs but there was none before 1842 which would coincide with the one I found in the Free Passage index.

Also apparently a reunion was held in 1870-1871 in the Town Hall for all of the first 5 years of First Fleet passengers, and photos were taken, and are named with the people who went to the reunion. I can have a look and see if I can find where the photos are (possibly at State records or City Library) and see if James LOWE is in them.
As I mentioned to Ros above I will be going to State Records next week so will look for you then. In the mean time if you have any other information that may help in the search let me know.
Sorry I couldn't be of much help today

Thanks Shanko. Here's what I know about my James Lowe family (which isn't much):

James and wife Jessie Lowe were likely from Scotland.
They were in Sydney, Australia by 1841 (give or take a year) as daughter Annie was born there.  Jessie likely died before 1862 as James Lowe and children traveled to Natal, South Africa then.  His other children were: William, Janetta, Jessie, and Charlotte.

Hi Shanko

If possible could you please lookup for any records on Henry( Harry) Edward Bruce. He was born approx 1886 in SA.
This man is abit of a mystery. Up to now I have not been able to find where this man was born but my aunts say they think he was born on Kangaroo Island in SA. I have found nothing definite yet to back up this info.
His father was George Bruce and mother was Elizabeth Plummer.
He married in York WA in 1905.
This is abit like looking for a needle in a haystack but am just about that desperate.
This bloke was a bit of a colourful character it seems he deserted his family when they were young over here in WA and changed his name and one day just showed up again on their doorstep years later. Lets just say he was not welcome. He was my Nans father.
Hope I have not confused you Shanko and if you dont have time for this one please dont put yourself out, I know this is a big ask.

Many thanks

Hiya troods,

I couldn't find a birth today BUT I haven't gone through everything as yet so don't think I have finished as I haven't. I love challenges :)

I did find, which youn probably have already got Eliza Plummers birth
Here it is incase you don't have it :

Birth 1859
Eliza PLUMMER
District Counter Bay, Currency Creek
Father : Benjamin PLUMMER
Mother : Eliza Devine

The original birth registers are at Alexandrina Library down Victor Harbour way.

I am heading into State Records next week as have some of the above to check for so while I'm there I'll check through some Sands and McDougall directories books to see if I can find your family and where abouts they were living

Leave it with me and I'll get back to you next week.

Sorry its not any earlier but I can't get there this week
