The Mystery of Myles Staunton
« on: Tuesday 11 December 12 11:52 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am trying to find out what happened to Myles Staunton, son of Thomas & Mary Staunton.

He was born in Liverpool in 1891:

From FreeBMD:
Births Dec 1891   (>99%)
Staunton, Miles, Liverpool 8b   26

He appears on the 1901 Census aged 11 (RG13/3407, Folio 25, Page 41) and then on the 1911, aged 19, (RG14-22-5-46-22546), in which he's employed by CPR Steamships (Canadian Pacific Railway) as a ship steward.

NB: in this case the Stanton/Staunton name is quite interchangeable!

After 1911... nothing.

Searching Ancestry Worldwide and FindMyPast's various worldwide databases has yielded only 1 hit and that was in the 1900 US Census. But Miles Stanton is aged 20 (b 1880) - but mother & father have the right names. However I'm certain this is not the right one.

I have no leads whatsoever to chase up.

Any advice or help would be gratefully received,

thanks

John

DId your Miles have a middle name?  There is a Miles P Stanton on the 1920 US census, born England c. 1893.  Immigration date of 1910.

THANK YOU  both for the reply.

I'm not sure if he had a middle name but that birth date certainly looks plausible.
Would be interesting to follow that up by looking for the their marriage record.

However, the immigration date of 1910, doesn't quite fit with his appearance on the England & Wales 1911 Census....

Thanks again Spidermonkey. Can you link to that marriage record please?

Yes, thanks Liz.  William is Myles's nephew. His father was Patrick, a younger brother of Myles. William died in Liverpool in 1999.  Patrick & Myles can be found together on the 1911 Census that I referenced above.
