Lisa in California, and Susano
I cannot thank you enough for the response"s to my post. You have expanded my family history with a wife and three children, a journey to a new country, burial information along with dates and places I would have taken years to find. May I give you both a big hug.
Both of you targeted the correct family, as "Winters" is the maiden name of Edward, Samuel and Charles, mother Martha Ekins nee Winters 1822-1859
Hope you both have a happy holiday season Regards Mike

Edward and Annie are buried in Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa.

Dorothy and Eldred had a daughter Helen Edith b. 19 Jun 1913 in Ottawa.

They also had a daughter Irene Dorothy Marie who died 19 Feb 1913 at the age of 1 year and 24 days. She was b. in Montreal. She was also buried in Beechwood Cemetery. This info is from that record.

Images of the birth record and cemetery entries are available through Ancestry. The cemetery images are on 2 pages.

The 1921 Canada census is due to be released in 2013 and this may be of further help to you.

If you do not have an Ancestry sub your local public library may have a sub to Ancestry Library Edition. This would give you access to the images of these records.

Here is the original 1901 census record for the family from the automatedgenealogy.com website (free to view). The family is indexed as 'Ekuis?' here although correctly indexed as Ekins on Anccestry.

Click on split screen at the top to see the original census image which gives more info than the transcript.

Are you following the Samuel Winters Ekins to George Winters Ekins (son of Samuel) line?
