Do you have his marriage certificate and death certificate I believe in Australia this should give his parents details.
Margp
His NSW marriage certificate
should give his parents names but understand there often blanks on the registrations. The death certificate in South Australia will not detail his parents names.
Marriage with mistranscribed surname.

HAMMEN Edward
RICKARD Mary A
District Silverton
If you wish to purchase a transcription of their marriage from an accredited transcription agent[cheaper than the certified certificate] I think you need to order using the mistranscribed name on the index but the registration number would bring up the correct registration anyway. I am more familiar with Vic records.

EDWARD HAMMER are respectfully Informed that the Funeral of his late

OBITUARY
Mrs. Annie Mary Hammer, of Fairford-terrace. Ethelton, died recently after a short illness. She was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Rickard of Broken Hill.
Born in Cornwall, she came to Australia at the age of one year with her parents, who lived at Moonta and Kadina for some years, and subsequently when they travelled by coach to Broken Hill. In 1886 at the Bible Christian Church she married Mr. Edward Hammer. Mr. and Mrs. Hammer had the distinction of being the first couple to be married on the Barrier. For the last 15 years she resided with her family at Ethelton. She left a husband, five sons, and five daughters— Messrs. E. T. Hammer. H. F. Hammer. R. Hammer. J. H. Hammer. M. Hammer. Mesdames H. Francis, C. W. O'Neill, J. J. Baker, and Misses Clare and Mellie Hammer. There are 17 grandchildren.
The Bible Christian church was Wesleyan/Methodist. I found a little about what may be the church where the
HAMMER's were married. As they were married in 1886 the actual building would not have been completed as Broken Hill was only established in 1885
The Wesley Church was officially opened in December 1888, just three years after the founding of
Broken Hill. The large lecture Hall opened a year later.
Designed by Frederick William Dancker of Adelaide, in a Victorian Gothic style, the Church and Hall were
built in rough hewn stone with brick trim.
The construction of the church and hall may have been associated with the large numbers of Cornish
miners attracted to the town from South Australia and other nearby mining areas.
Their significance is their association with the pioneering days of Broken Hill and the arrival of Methodism
with its strong temperance stance, and the contrast at the time with the town‟s reputation for
boisterousness, heavy drinking and militant unionism.
The Uniting Church of Australia owns the church and hallA bit of trivia

–perhaps it was his son Edward who registered the motor bike.
