Never mind, we will get there.  The will shows his daughters' married names and their husbands, would those be of any use to you?

The will is dated 29 October 1883 when he was living at 63 King St.  Wife is Mary and sons Robert, Joseph,Thomas,William, Edward and Samuel.
Eliza is wife of Isaac Garland, miner,
Mary Ann is wife of Zachariah Homer, forgeman.
Hannah is recorded as wife of Joseph Williams, forgeman.  However I haven't been able to trace a marriage for Williams.  There is one for a Joseph Williamson and Hannah Simms in 1873 and the 1881 census has the Williams family at 3 Fordrough and in 1891 the Williamson family at 3 Fordrough - I suppose it will take a certificate to decide which is correct. (the marriage in 1915 of Hannah Sims and Joseph Williams is that of Robert Sims daughter).
The will does not mention Ann who is on the 1871 census. (That is the only reference to her I have found so far)
John's signature was witnessed by Theophilus Shaw Batchford a pattern maker of Temple St and Joseph Westwood, roller, of Overend St. The executor was Reuben Shaw Batchford.
Hope this is of use but let me know if there is anything else.

I've been looking at certificates again this morning and found that when Robert Sims married Louisa Jones (6.8.1878) one of the witnesses was Hannah Williamson - looks as though that might solve the Williams/Williamson question if it was his sister.
The Samuel Simms I have traced married a Sarah Jane - am I on the right track?  There seems to be no standard spelling of Sims in the family which doesn't help does it.

Yes, Louisa died 28 March 1893 from influenza while in premature labour - she was 5 months pregnant.  I have been told she was buried in a paupers grave in Heath Lane cemetery but the family were kind enough to  put her name on the large family gravestone when her father died 9 months later!
Hope it's been of help.
