The names after the townlands were in a column headed ‘ Name and Residence of Father, Mother or person in charge of child’.

There also seems to have been Irwins living in Ballymaglin and Granagh townlands.

Magic, the vaccinations in Bellarena register are spot on I can recognise all but two.  These two will need further research but at least they are new possibilities. I wasn't aware this sort of information was available, so thank you very much for your help. Best wishes Belfast beau

Hi Cyclamen. Too eager to say thank you and I forgot to ask what were the vaccinations for in the 1800's. I cant believe that my Irwin's would have had the funds for private medicine, was this an all Ireland government scheme, or local councils? again Thanks, Belfast beau.

Hi,
   About 1852 the London government set up dispensaries in each Poor Law Union to provide medical care for the poor. The Limavady ones were Dungiven, Feeny, Ballykelly, Bellarena and Limavady itself. They also made vaccination compulsary and free and each dispensary had to make returns to the Poor Law Union Guardians who in turn has to make returns to the Poor Law Commissioners in Dublin. The Bellarena Dispensary building still stands but is unused.

a few years back at the start of this thread you gave me some amazing info on my family which I am still extremely grateful for :
Now that I have began concentrating on my Irish heritage I was wondering if you could advise me as to where that info came from? what online research or database should I be using?         I think that I may have found your family.

26 Nov 1887 William Irwin of Grannagh Aghanloo married Elizabeth Irwin of Ballycastle Aghanloo.
They were married in Dungiven.

Known children were
12 May 1876 Margaret
15 Jun 1878  Elizabeth died 1878
1 Jul     1879 Mary
12 Nov 1881 Anne
5 Mar 1884   Thomas Charles
29 May 1886 William

The children were all born in Ballycastle Aghanloo

Any info would be great - just to add more info  - both William's and Elizabeth's mothers were McCluskeys and were probably at least cousins.

           Sorry, but I cannot remember the source of that information. At the time I was searching for information on an Elizabeth Irwin whose death was registered in Limavady in 1884 and who died in Dumbane Aghanloo. a townland beside Ballycastle. I was using local church registers, and microfilm of church registers in Coleraine Library and at PRONI in Belfast but at the time I did not note sources (a big mistake). My Elizabeth Irwin was the mother of at least two illegitimate children and my great grandmother's brother was the father.
