Great episode. John's mother's side is all Irish roots but the English paternal line had the better stories apparently.

Seems we're unanimous as I also thoroughly enjoyed this. A good variety of sources & places, mostly new to the series as well.

A nice man, genuinely interested and touched by the discoveries. His interaction made it a most enjoyable episode for me.

Really enjoyed it too - even if I did have a little grumble at the start to Mr Spidermonkey when John seemed to leap to the conclusion that the Canadian marriage record must be the right one  ;)

I had a go at the maternal line last night also double checked with online trees. Surnames include Hackett, Mulrooney, Moran, Campbell and Doyle. I think there's Irish on his father's side too. Apart from Catherine Evitt there's Kelly and Greer from Dublin on Frederick Bishop's wife's side of the family.

Just watched John Bishop on Loose Women.
He was pleased that his father had found the unmarked grave of his gt gt gr father and they were going to erect a headstone. :)
