Anthony Alexander KENNEDY

I am trying to find the grave of Anthony Alexander KENNEDY who died in Middleton, Co. Cork on 15th March 1884, aged 61. He was RC, but was originally from Co Derry, so not a native of the area. He was a fairly senior official in the Inland Revenue in the area. Any suggestions for:

1.   Where me might be buried?
2.   Which local paper a funeral notice might have been put in?

Where he might be buried is anybody's guess I'm afraid. There is a cemetery in Middleton so that's a possibility. The notice would most likely have been published in the Cork Examiner. It's not online so you would need to see microfilm copies in either the Cork city library or the Cork County library or possibly the NLI Dublin.

I have found Anthony Alexander's gravestone inscription in a book
"The Gravestone inscriptions of St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Midleton, Co Cork
by Richard Henchion, a very well known local historian. St John the Baptist church
is Church of Ireland.   The burials here seem to be mixed but mainly Church of Ireland. 



"At the top of the monument is the crest of the family, a swimming dolphin, and the family's motto "Avise La Fin", there is also a thistle.   "Erected/ by Agnes Kennedy in/
loving memory of her dear husband/Anthony Alexander Kennedy/Superior of Inland
Revenue/Eighth son of the late/Rev. Charles Kennedy /of Maghera/O.B. March 15 1884."


There is another burial recorded for his infant son -

 "S.M/Anthony Alexander/Infant son of /A.A. Kennedy/Supervisor of I.R./Of such
is the Kingdom of God/"


Interesting the mention of the family crest and motto.

I have often tried to access this cemetery but unfortunately the gates are usually locked except for Sunday service.

This man died in my house in Midleton. I wonder if you have any general information on the family at all? I’ll try to find the grave - I know the church very well.

NB.., they were Presbyterian, not Catholic.
