CHUGG LOCK or RIDD, Bittadon or West/East Down
« on: Wednesday 05 December 12 19:47 GMT (UK) »
I have a Grace Parminter CHUGG born 1780 in Bittadon d/o Thomas and Joane nee WHITE.

2 possible marriages for Grace -

William LOCK from Parracombe. This Grace died in June qtr 1851, named as Grace P LOCK in the index. Her age is correct, Birth place in 1851 census was West Down. Marriage found in West Down parish registers on findmypast, 16th March 1813, bride named as Grace Parminter CHUGG, parents not named

Richard RIDD. Marriage appeard in IGI 15th July 1826 in East Down, parents not named.  Not found in census, BUT there is a Grace RIDD of the correct age, married to William in 1841 and 1851 (a widow in 1861). She died in Marwood in 1866 and is buried in Bratton Fleming.

My queries are:

Does anyone know of any other Grace Parminter CHUGGS around these dates.  This is possible because PARMINTER married into CHUGG more than once.

Does anyone have knowledge of a death of either Richard RIDD, and/or Grace RIDD prior to 1851

Thanks  SHIRLEY

Richard & Grace RIDD baptised at least 3 children at Challacombe:
Richard 6 May 1827
Ann 18 Aug 1828
William 16 Mar 1830
These children were shown in 1841 living with a 72 year old Ann RIDD at Challacombe HO107 piece 245 folio 7 page 9.
There is an OPC for Challacombe, who may have the burials available - see http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/Challacombe/index.html and scroll down to Genealogy for the link.
I think it unlikely that someone born 1780 would still be having children in 1830 (although not impossible).

Hi

I am also looking for similar names..in particular parents of Susan or Susanna Ridd born 1815 Binnaton  who was married to William Hooper.

ON wills for Devon found surfing found a Grace Ridd Coombe Martin 1827 admin to Susanna Ridd - daughter. also John Ridd - surgeon 1821 Combe Martin widow Grace Ridd. Don't know whether any of these are related to you or me as so many of them.

I have many of the local names running through my tree e.g Slee, Chugg, Parminter, Atkey, Hooper, Vellacott, Coats.

Maybe my tree is similar to yours.

Hi, Susan Ridd is my GGG grandmother born in Bittadon 1815. I too have been looking for her parents. The parish records for Bittadon around that time do not exist so it's a bit tricky. Have a look at my web site Rumsam.org as there's some more info about Susan and William Hooper. Marriage, bastardy order and Grave photo.

Hi Martin

We communicated quite a long time ago and obviously both going around in circles. Have you come across a Grace Ridd and a John Ridd. I came across them looking for wills on Google. There is a reference to a Grace being a widow in John's will...states he was a surgeon and in Graces will it states money left to daughter Susanna.???

Probably grabbing at straws here. Both wills were in Combe Martin

regards

Gill
