It might be an idea to post asking for the 1851 census to find James, I have searched all England on the 1861 and he is not coming up anywhere

I've got him in 1851 from his dau's birth cert. but the family vanishes until his son appears with family in 1881.

in 1851 I have

James La Roche, 25, Surrey St Geo. the Martyr, Plasterer
Elizabeth, 25, St geo the Martyr
James, 3, City of London
Elizabeth, 2, Surrey, Christchurch

only the son James is ever heard of again and not until his marriage in 1872

no trace of any of their deaths on 1837online 1852-1881

its very frustrating

I thought James' (senior) mother's death cert. might flush him out as informant, but she was run over by an omnibus and the coroner was informant!

Oh Well - the joys of genealogy
