Hello,
I have been researching your family for a number of years. I am a cousin to James Hart Thompson and your family. His brother, Stewart, left Ireland in 1907 for NY and lived in Kentucky the rest of his life. Stewart is a cousin of our family and visited our family in Iowa in 1908. My great grandfather is John Y Thompson born Londonderry about 1832-34, emigrated about 1853 and died in Iowa in 1888. We have been trying to find his Irish family by tracing Stewart back to a common ancestor. Through that search we found James Hart's and Stewart's (and their sister, Christina's) father, Robert. Robert's marriage record for his 1870 marriage to Mary Jane Hart at First Derry Presbyterian lists Robert's father as James. We think Robert had a brother, John Alexander (born abt 1856), who married and lived in Co. Monaghan. I would be happy to share everything we found about your family. Maybe you will have some clues about our John Y Thompson, who I think is James (Robert's father's) son or brother. I just joined RootsChat today so I could make contact with you after I stumbled across your postings on the internet. I would be happy to give you my direct email if that will facilitate sharing information.
Fred Thompson

James Hart's and Stewart's sister, Christina, was born in 1878. She married Arthur Kerr at Great Street Presbyterian Church in 1902. Stewart and Christina lived at 13 Lonemoor Rd in 1901 (see census). Arthur was in the R.I.C. and posted to Belfast. They lived at 9 Harrow St., in the city in 1911. When we visited that street in June this year, the cab driver told us the original home was still standing. One of their children was Stewart Thompson Kerr. Arthur died 27 Jan 1940. See PRONI Will Calendars.
