Hi Graeme,
Over the time i have sent you some corrections to you regarding my family, but at times your don't aknowledge your contacts, how ever i've found another boo boo on my brother;  ''Buried: Martinborough,Wairarapa, New Zealand'' where the heck did you get that from, no way he is in there.

Well i guess you haven't done too bad of correcting errors, it's good to see that you now have my deceased brother in the right order compared to my surviving brother that died and my father had his grandfather as his father, thank you for correcting all that data Graeme.

Hi,
My first post probably covers both points you raise.
The volume of email's; messages etc. I receive means that I do not always get the time to reply to emails that don't ask a question or seek info.
As info is received from multiple sources, advised burial places are used, unless they get corrected or questioned by another researcher
Cheers
Graeme

Hi Graeme

Thanks so much for dropping bye and answering the questions
Fascinating
I for one have always been intrigued
So you can assure ytou that you are connected to all the names that appear
I too thought at times it was a group that had gathered others trees..so that is a relief  :D

Bye
Althea

The site is unique to my wife's, my children's and my family history. It could also be called a group effort as many researchers have contributed their research and I try to always acknowledge this. One of the difficulties I have had is when I occasionally receive a Gedcom file with a 1000 plus names in it. I merge it into my own master database using the facility in my Legacy 7 programme but due to its sheer volume do not immediately verify each individuals information. This is where incorrect data listed by the Gedcom contributor may slip in.

Sorry folks. Until "Twiggy" emailed me today I did not know there were researchers having a problem contacting me.
I started A Kiwi Adams Finding his Roots! website with 60 immediate family names in Nov 99 when it was much more difficult to find info on line. From the onset I made the decision not to discard any information or individual who was linked by blood or marriage to any current individual listed on the site. To a certain extent this has come to be a bit of a challenge for me as it has grown to 240,000 linked individuals and as it has developed as  it has broadened to cover 14,000 unique surnames and about 44,000 families.
Nelson my home town was a small community with a relatively limited number of large families who intermarried and moved to other parts of New Zealand, in itself with a small population base. Those researchers who elect to cover immediate family links only, miss the sibling links that result from a marriage which my site picks up. Some of the links have become apparent several years apart in the sites life and I have been advised by some researchers that they have found "best friends" to be 3rd cousins by marriage.
I can assure you that the info on the site is genuine. As it covers research by others as well as by myself I cannot guarantee that it is 100% accurate but the researchers who have contributed the information it contains, believe it to be an accurate record. Where I receive conflicting information about an individual I attempt to check it myself using internet resources and if that is not possible I tend to use the data supplied by the closest immediate family researcher.
To give you an idea of the challenge it now presents it takes about 30 on-line hours to update the site which is why I only do it about four times a year. I have a further problem in that I posted it on the My Heritage website, resulting in me currently having over 2,000 MESSAGES advising me of "Smart matches". They are covering 30,000 individuals. Genealogy is a hobby for me and as I work full time it only gets done when I get an opportunity (although my wife would argue that it consumes a lot of my leisure time)
My genealogy email is: (*)
Cheers
Graeme

Hello Graeme - I  Note your reference to MyHeritage - i get annoyed when I have to action Smart Matches -  especially for those that have updated their gedcom files and not deleted their old gedcom trees so when smart matches happen it can be the same names on multiples of trees from the same person/ I think you have quite a few repeat family trees on MyHeritage. Delete the old ones please -  and you will also find that your number of smart matches will also reduce.
Thanks

Hi DonL,
Yes I currently have 3 GEDCOM loaded trees on the site. I cannot find out how to delete the old Trees.
I have been through all the account settings and have only been able to reset the latest upload as the DEFAULT tree. It has most of the Smartmatch data I have received incorporated in it.

I have renamed the two earlier versions and unticked the boxes that provide links for members.

The site should have an UPDATE provision for Gedcoms rather than accepting each upload as a new tree.
The only solution I saw was to delete all the data thereby effectively closing the acount and then starting a new account. As the site has a Premium membership with it I am reluctant to take that step
Happy New Year

I have notified Graeme on errors in my part of the tree. None of them have ever been rectified

I would also like to mention that I gave my gedcom to Graeme about 5 or 6 years ago.  We had one person in common.  He then published all my work without notifying me.

He has also published my full name and date of birth on his site, also my brother and the rest of my living family.

I have an unusual maiden name.  With my maiden name, date of birth, and my mother's maiden name all online it would not be difficult for someone to use my identity.

Graeme if you read this would please consider the implications of publishing living people.  I know the program you use can privatize people and I hope that you will do this next time you update.  i gave up trying to email you years ago.

Hi Tracey,

I am very sorry to read from your posting that your details have been published online.

The notification that would have normally gone to KiwiG45 has sadly bounced back to us as it looks like the email address has been changed as too has the website that he had provided a link to.

Reading an historic message his website June 2014, he states

Quote
I have Adrenal and Lung cancer whch will impair my ability to maintain this site. It will ultimately become a site without change but I hope of continued use to my fellw genealogists

That's such a shame for him, and I mean that sincerely.

Thank you for letting me know.  He hasn't logged in for 3 years so I guess nothing can be done now and I just have to accept it.
