Looking for a family named Thomson that used to live at Bannockburn a long time ago.
Arthur Thomson born about 1800, lived at Bannockburn & became a stone mason. He married and had at least three children, Gennia who later married a man named Reid, Alexander (sandy) and Arthur Reid Thomson, who became my great grandfather.
Arthur Reid Thomson was born Jan 1, 1827 at Bannockburn (his home was made of stone & had a stone fence around it) and lost both parents when he was quite young (maybe age 5)
He & Alexander (probably born 1824/1825) were then taken to Edinburgh where they were raised by their grandfather.
It seems that they probably lived within walking distance of Leith docks.
The grandfather was an Innkeeper & kept a public coach in Edinburgh.
Arthur left Edinburgh on board the sailing ship Margaret Bogle on May 9, 1843 being 16 years of age headed for an uncles place in Rochester NY. He never made it, instead with friends he went to the Port of Quebec, then Montreal.
He later made his way into the USA settling in Wisconsin then to Nebraska.
He made contact through the mail with Alexander some years later.
I have always hoped I might come in contact with a Thomson family who had a tradition/record of a young boy sailing for America many years ago.
Dean
 Thanks for any help
