Any ideas ? My next step is....
« on: Sunday 02 December 12 20:33 GMT (UK) »
Dear all , looking for some advice or knowledge .
I have Michael Francis Ryan b . Filard  ( ? ? ) Ireland  ref . 1861 census a 31 y Harpist  living : - 1 Paradise Place , Cardiff .
On the 1853 cert of Michaels mrg . to Ellen Bevil , his father is shown as a farmer ( I assume in Ireland )
On the 1854 birth cert of son John Ryan he is shown as a schoolmaster  living : - Welsh St , Chepstow
On the 1873 mrg . cert of son John Ryan he is shown to be deceased ( pos . d . jun 1/4 1871 Bristol )

Searching for info . on the name in Ireland of Filard . Do you think it has been trancribed incorrectly  ? What could it be  ?
Does anyone have any info . on Michaels birth in Ireland and his parents history there  ?
Appreciate thoughts and help to progress this problem ,
Thankyou

I've never heard of Filard so could be mistranscribed. Two places come to mind - Fethard in Tipperary or Killard in Cork. Unfortunately, Ryan is a very common name in Ireland.

I think the initial letter is "T"?

Compare with the occupation of Tailor 2 doors down! ;D

So, maybe Tilard?

Thankyou for your replies . The letter T is a possibility and not the F as I thought . I will play around with the info . and hope to see if anything else comes up , I thought the trade of Michaels father named John ( shown as a farmer ) may have helped and I ' ve just noticed I did'nt put that in my original request .
Appreciate responses , thankyou

I am looking for the same family.  My research involves Michael's son John Michael Ryan, born 1854 in Chepstow, who married Anne Amelia Trebell in 1873.

I thought the trade of Michaels father named John ( shown as a farmer ) may have helped

Unfortunately, the majority of people in Ireland in early 19th century were tenant farmers living on what we might today call smallholdings, so this won't narrow down the search very much.
Perrins - Manchester and Staffs
Honan - Manchester and Ireland
Hogg - Manchester 19 cent
Anderson - Newcastle mid 19 cent
Boullen - London then Carlisle then Manchester
Comer - Manchester and Galway
