I have bought a book that gives quite a bit of info on burials (Brit. army)  over the years.1813-1920 incl. artillery, hussars, dragoons etc. give me a shout if you have any queries. if you'd like to buy a copy I'll send you a link.

Hi there

Does it look like the graveyard was used for families for army personnel too/ My ancestor appears to have been based in Ballincollig with the 4th battalion of the Royal Artillery before being posted to Woolwich and then the West Indies. The family had a son William Owen born 1 January 1839 who was not with them in Woolwich on the 1841 census. I'm wondering if he died before they left Ballincollig.

An article on the BBC News website states that Anne Donaldson discovered that none of the soldiers' graves she found related to the Troubles which ended with the foundation of the Irish Free State in 1922 when the British garrison left. Most of the soldiers appeared to have died either of illness, accident or suicide, with many suffering battle-induced trauma or shell shock. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/northern_ireland/4304813.stm

i'm looking for any connection to my great grandfather James Cassidy

he was born at Kingston, Ontario, Canada in 1817 and then, somehow, at aged 15 was attested in 1832 into the 37th Regiment Of Foot of the Hampshire Regiment AT "Ballancollig", Co Cork, Ireland

he was discharged at Ceylon (Sri Lanka) in 1856 (see attached document)

what happened after that, i dunno

any help appreciated
