Photo dating please?
« on: Tuesday 27 November 12 20:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Could anyone give me a date on this photograph? I apologise for the quality, it's a scan of a photocopy sadly, since I don't have the original. I know that the man at the back is my great grandfather, who died in 1925, so it's before that, and I believe that the boy next to him may be his younger son, born 1906, which suggests it's around the time of WWI. I have no idea about the identity of the two small boys or most of the women, but I wonder if the woman with the boy on her lap could be my great grandmother, who died in 1915, so a date would be helpful. It doesn't look hugely like the other photos I have of her, but those date roughly 1895-1905.
TIA
Joss

I might be mistaken, but I would guess this probably dates a tiny bit later than 1905. It looks about WWI era to me. Again, though, I might be wrong.

Yes, sometime during the war I would suggest....the skirt lengths and hairstyle of the women at the back are about right for that time frame. If the gals are fashionable it will be before the early 1920s.

But narrowing it down to 1915, I'm not sure.

Thanks guys, WWI is what I thought, so nice to have it confirmed. How about this one (same family):

I believe it to be about 1907, since the little boy on the far right I think is my grandfather born 1902, and the child on my great grandmothers lap may be the younger son again, born 1906. Of course, it's possible that I'm wrong and the child on her lap might be my grandfather, which would make it more like 1903. I don't know if it's possible to say for sure whether its 1903 or 1907!

The ladies' hats are too wide for 1903 but just about right for 1907 or maybe a year or so later.
