McDaid-Docherty, Tamnabryan
« on: Thursday 22 November 12 23:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am looking for information about my Mothers family in the Tamnabryan area?

Grampa 'Bob', was a well known figure and was a boot maker, he also ran a small farm. The next farm was ran by the Mather's family. They had 8 children, most of them left home in the early 40's, Isobel stayed in the family home till her death I believe. Veronica lived in Lifford, Donegal.  Robert was killed during WWII. Frank lived in New Buildings, Derry. He was a bus driver. He had three children. Any help would be appreciated

Hi aghadowey

Thanks for this, it seems they are in Altrest not tamnabryan? But I think is defenitely the right ones, my Gran was Francis. Very scary to see Roberts grave report. I only had very scant details of him.

Gives me a great starting point, thanks again

Hopefully will be able to find a bit more now.

In 1911 Robert and Frances McDaid are living in the townland of Tamnakeery (which I think isn't far from Tamnabryan?). Married 6 years according to census so perhaps they lived there for a while when first married.

Only Robert McDaid around the right age I could find in 1901 is this one with his father John-

Robert's marriage certificate should list his father's name but I haven't found it in the civil registration index yet.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Alan, you were looking for some information on the Mc Daid family. Your question was around your mothers family. As far as I am aware there was nine members in the family. Margaret, Nell, Isabelle, Ann, Jean ( your mother?) , Robert, Francis (Frank) , Teresa  and Mary .

Hi Alan , you asked about Frank Mc Daid , he had four of a family, not three. Unfortunately all of your mothers family have now passed away. The last living was Veronica (Vera) from lid ford. She left her husband Charlie but unfortunately he has now also passed away. My name is Robert James Mc Daid the grandson of 'Bob'.
