Alfie Devito Belfast

Hi am looking to see if anyone has any knowledge of a Devito family who lived in Belfast. Unfortuanately what I know is very vague. Alfie Devito married a Sarah ann Cleland. She was birn in 1913 and died in 1974 They lived in Bangor at the time of her death. My family always believed alfie was Italian. Possibly born here. I know when Sarah or Sadie as she was known died Alfie apparently moved to America and remarrried very quicky. With his new wife they opened a hotel of sorts but he died shortly after probably 1975 or 6. I am not sure how this information was relayed to Belfast but Sarahs mother was still alive at the time. There is a devito family living in Belfast in the 1911 census with the father being a hairdresser. My mum believes the whole family might have been barbers so this could be them but if so Alfie isnt born then. With it being an Italian man being a barber in Belfast I am hoping that stands out in someones memory. I would just like to find out his date of birth and where he was born and if there was any other family members still here. Alfie and sarah didnt have any children.

Sarah Ann Devito died 7 August 1974. Not much time for Alfie to move to America, remarry and open an hotel by 1975/6.

Wonder what Alfie's first name was- closest Belfast birth for Devito c1913 is     Ederici E M Devito, Apr./June 1912 Belfast registration district volume 1 page 179 (index doesn't indicate whether male or female).

It all sounds quite quick after her death but I am till that's how it happened. Maybe he had other family over there and moved straight after. He might not have much reason to stay the rest of Sarah's family were in Belfast fairly scattered about. I don't know what Alfie would be short for except Alfred

Might be worth checking to see what happened to older siblings, etc. Will post back here if I find any clues that might help find Alfie.

Well, it looks like Alfie could be little William in 1911 census (link posted above)!

The ages on the census don't, I think, match up with the correct child but I've found births in England that might sort that out-

All births registered Holborn district, London:
Ernesto 1897 (1911- Ernest)
Elisa Albina 1898 (1911- Alice)
Helena 1901 (1911- Ellen)
Ersiglio 1902 (died young)
Armando 1905 (1911- Armando)
Oreste 1906 (died young)
Ersiglio 1908 (1911- Ersiglio)
Oreste 1908 (1911- Oreste)

Spelling of surname may be making it difficult to find all the children but... this may be William in 1911 census (10 months old in 1911 would be about right):
William Alfred A. Devito Apr./June 1910 Hackney

If 'Alfie' is William Alfred A. it might be that you need to search for William Devito in U.S.

An Ernie Devito had a cafe at Main Street Portrush and his wife ran a ladies hairdresser (Clio's ) next door in the 60's. Ernie's had 2 sons, * and a daughter. * (son) is still in the area. The Ernesto in the census would certainly fit the bill regarding age

It's still an 'if' at this point, but be aware that if Peter and Mary DeVito a la 1911 census is the correct family, the Lennon Wylie website also shows them possibly into confectionery (maybe ice cream as well?) in 1918...
