Captain Edward Isaac DOWSETT & Grace RUTT

I am researching my GGG grandfather, Captain Edward Isaac Dowsett. He worked from Port Adelaide in 1840's and 1850's. I can find a lot of articles on TROVE, but nothing much on Ancestry.com except for his death record. He died at 40. I thought he was lost at sea, but am not sure. Any help would be good. I do not know that much about him except he married Grace Rutt.

Also, I am looking for death records for the Rutt family. Half of them died less than a year after their arrival in SA in 1839. Does anyone know any good websites where I can look for shipping information. I can't find anything on ancestry, but I don't think I am doing my search correctly.

Grace had an illegitimate daughter, Mary Ann that Edward brought up as his own. I think Grace was about 16 when she was born. I can find no record of her either. Any help much appreciated.

Hi Daisy,

From a SA Government Gazette 26th August 1852 Edward Dowsett was appointed master of the Government Schooner 'Yatala' effective 31st August.
