Thanks Carol,

I will persue the Thomas Redgate connection. Is it that you are unable to make out Mary's surname?

Regards,

Mark.

Just a quick update.

I think that I have found William's death, FreeREG Dec 1893 Belper, 7b 389 aged 84.

This would give him a birth year of c1809 so the William whose birth was Arnold 1804 to James/Mary is probably not my man.

There are the two births in Mansfield/Sutton in Ashfield but he always states his birthplace as Nottingham or Arnold, Nottinghamshire.

There is a John/Ann Gregory building a family in Arnold around the time of William's birth. They have 7 children registered between 1795 and 1808 but, sadly, no William.

I think that I have traced the Thomas Redgate line back another two generations but can find no connection with the Gregory family.

Any help gratefully received.

Mark.
