Thank you all!  I am new to research in Ireland and this is so very helpful.
Gaffy, I've listed Robert and Catherine's children below and you will see that the Pinkerton names you found, Hugh, Jack and Margaret, seem to fit this family perfectly.  Also, this family has always used Jack as a nickname for John.  Can I ask you where you found this information about the Pinkertons?
Elwyn, thanks so much for the practical advice.  I would not have a clue otherwise of where to order these death records.  The family you found could well be connected to Catherine - certainly worth investigating.
Rathmore, thanks for the link to the Donegal resources site.  It looks very interesting, especially as Pinkerton doesn't seem to be all that common a name in Donegal.  I have already ordered and received the marriage certificate for Robert and Catherine (which resulted in me starting this thread  :)).
Aghadowey, thanks for the information and the links.

Perhaps I should list what I know of Catherine and Robert's children.  This information has come from our known family history as well as from what I have been able to find on www.familysearch.org.

Robert Anderson, b. Strabane 24 Jan 1880 d. ? Wales
Margaret Elizabeth Anderson b. Strabane Jan-March 1882, married John McBurney, emigrated to Canada.
Kathleen Frances Anderson (birth record Fanny Catherine) b. Strabane Oct-Dec1883, d. Wales c1922
John James Anderson (birth record Hugh) b. Strabane 6 Oct 1885 d. 27 Oct 1952 Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
William Hugh Anderson b. Strabane 16 Dec 1887 d. 11 Aug 1918, Harbonnieres, France. (separate thread on William http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,597013.0.html)
Thomas Anderson b. Strabane Apr-Jun 1890, d. 2 Apr 1918, Salonika, Greece.

Thanks again, everyone for all your help.

Linda

I know this topic is quite old but this weekend I've started researching the Anderson family from Strabane and noticed the Family Search tree with numerous errors.
Robert Anderson, a plumber, son of James Anderson & Ann Jane Martin, died of TB 17 Oct.1892 at Barrack St., Strabane.
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/deaths_returns/deaths_1892/06019/4713710.pdf
Letters of Administration of the personal estate of Robert Anderson late of Strabane County Tyrone Plumber who died 17 October 1892 at same place were granted at Londonderry [26 Nov.1892] to Catherine Anderson of Strabane the Widow. Effects £100.
https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tyrone/Strabane/Deny_Road/1753939/ (Catherine- maternity nurse) Address is Derry Road.
Children found so far-
1. Robert Anderson (1880 Strabane-d.Wales), house painter

One more possible child? Mary/Molly

   https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Ormeau/Ogilvie_Street/215778/
In 1901 census she's not listed in the household of Catherine (Pinkerton) Anderson.
In 1912 a Mollie Anderson is witness to marriage of Frances Catherine Anderson.

Here's what the Family Search tree has about her-
https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/details/KHB9-57Q
Molly Anderson (c1881-1922) m.(c1898) Jack Buckle. In 1912 she signed her name as Mollie Anderson.
On the same page it lists her parents marriage in 1867 in Larne (they married 1879 in Stranorlar opposite end of Ireland)

I have also compiled quite a bit of information on the parents and siblings of Robert Anderson.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you, aghadowey.  Lots of info about the Robert Anderson family!  Molly Anderson is a bit of a puzzle - I'll have to think about that and see how she might fit in.  You said you also had info about Robert Anderson's parents and siblings, which would be great to see.

Just a thought. In my Irish family May/Mary and Mollie/Molly are short forms for each other. i notice that both names appear in the family.....perhaps different generations.

Indications are that Mary Francis and Mollie/Molly are the same person which is why I grouped them together. Both the census record for Mary Francis Anderson & the Mollie Anderson as a wedding witness indicates a relationship to the family of Robert Anderson & Catherine Pinkerton. The dubious family tree showing Molly Anderson as their daughter shows her as the approx. age of Mary Francis Anderson in 1911 census (c1881/1882). However, the age range doesn't fit with known children of Robert & Catherine (married Apr.1879)-
Robert (Jan.1880)
Margaret Elizabeth (Oct.1881)
Frances Catherine (Sept.1883)
John James (c1886)- birth registration not found yet
William Hugh (Dec.1887)
Thomas (Apr.1890)
Also note that 1911 says Mary Francis born in Co.Donegal (unlike siblings born Co.Tyrone) but mother Catherine born in Co.Donegal. It's possible that Catherine went home to have the child and the registration was overlooked.

LindaGW- I have, I think, found another son of James Anderson & Anne Jane Martin called James bapt.1860 who likely died young before another son called James was bapt. in 1862.

The marriage of Robert Anderson and Catherine Pinkerton gives her father as John Pinkerton, labourer, so not likely to be connected to Rev. Pinkerton.
