Gore's 1911 Street Directory - 4, Mar St.
« on: Wednesday 14 November 12 17:14 GMT (UK) »
On 30 May 1912 Mary Eves was born to William Eves and his wife Mary (m.s. Moore) who were living at 4, Mar Street, Toxteth, Liverpool. Mar Street is not found in the 1911 census returns on An***try, F*M*P, or 1911 Cen*us.co.*k websites.

Could someone please tell me if the parents were living at the same address in 1911 by using Gore's 1911 Liverpool Street Directory.

Hi,

I think you will find it should be Marr Street.

Regards,
Mo

I'm not sure about that Mo, there seem to be lots of web references to a Mar Street in Toxteth.

It's not listed in Gores 1911 though

Mar Street is in the "street and named buildings index" in Gores 1911 which shows its location as Wolfe Street which is in the Prince William St/Warwick st area.

Thank you Shaun,

Sorry, I didn`t make it clearer regarding Mar Street being Marr Street in 1911.

Many thanks to Mo and to Shaun for your replies. You were absolutely right, it was Marr Street although it still doesn't return as such on the websites. However, I think I've now found the family in the 1911 Census in Shaftesbury Street.

I have a map of Toxteth which includes a small photo looking north along Wolfe Street with Mar Street on the right. The street sign in the photo spells it as Mar but the map itself has it as Marr!

Thanks for your input, Blue. It's bad enough when your ancestors change their names nevermind the street name.
Now I understand what U2 were singing about. :)
