Assistance with dating this couple

Hello all,

Fairly certain we know who this couple is, and when the photo was taken. The trouble is that it doesn't gel with other photos that are definitive in date and identity. Can anyone pinpoint a date for this? It was taken in Canada, just in case that assists with the style of dress on the lady.

At first glance I'm tempted to say late 1880s/early 1890s, China or Jim will probably be along to give the correct date though.

Thinking mid 1880s, definitely before the shoulder style changed in 1889, and before the bodice style changed in the second half of the decade. The dress, hair and pose are just right for mid 1880s.

CC, it's best if you could show us the whole thing uncropped, and also the back if there is any printing on it.
