Thank you so very much.

The ones I am having trouble finding is Arthur Hanson, b. 1873 and now I have discovered what appears to be another daughter Edith...both children for Emily Hanson.

Edited to add: Think I have found Arthur...he's down as Arthur William S - think I will stick to freeBMD myself now!

wow, that latest find is excellent.  Thanks Kgerrard.

The family are a bit sad I think...Arthur, the son of Emily is in an Orphans Asylum in 1881...would love to find out why..am going to try and contact the records office...apparently there are some good records for this particular asylum to be found.

As mum Emily was widowed, presumably left without income, and moved back to Mum and Dads with her 5 yr old dtr, maybe there just wasnt room for, or funds to support, another child too.

Red writing frm peggy - yes, they were grandchildren of the Butterworths - Gertrude Hanson being child of the widowed daughter Emily Hanson nee Butterworth

Thanks Peggy :)

Yes it looks like that lizdb - just found the other daughter at a different orphanage.  Thankfully they all appear to be reunited on later censuses.  How hard times must have been back then to have to make those kind of choices.

Considering William's occupation (Deputy Superintendent Registrar) at Edith & Gertrude's baptism, I would have thought the family would have been provided for?

It just seems a little strange, to me?
