I am thinking glasgow area, but not sure.......i  know their children were

I am ttrying to find out where this family lived and any hints on their occupations

Heather, there is a little bit around about the family just from general google searches. Have you tried this?

Some of what I can see:

Banns or marriage entry here http://shottshistory.co.uk/1838-1839.htm (just search for Gibb).

The family's 1851 entry, everyone born in Shotts except father William:
