Parents of Thomas Hall - Completed with thanks
« on: Friday 09 November 12 10:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I wonder if anyone is able to help me find the parents of Thomas Hall born Ashton Under Lyne or Staleybridge about 1827. Place of birth changes in the census.

He married Margaret Moffat on the 30th September 1850 at St Mary's Church, Manchester. His father was John Hall, shoemaker. His witnesses were Charles Hall and Barbara Moffat (Margaret's sister).

Unfortunately I can't pin Thomas down in 1841, at the time of marriage Thomas was a clogger. I have him in other census (not yet found him in 1881) beginning with the 1851, HO107, Piece 2225, Folio 202, Page 4. By 1891 he was a widower.

Many Thanks

Thanks Heather, it looks a good possibility.  :)

I will see if I can find the church, which was St. Michael's Church, in the Lancashire images on Family Search. Also will see what comes up in the census for John and Hannah.

Thank  you

That would be brilliant thank you. The images don't seem to cover St Michael and the dates for St George Stalybridge are too late.

I will let you know if anything turns up in the census.

Evie

Added: Not that it matters for Old St George as I see John is a spinner. It is possible however he changed his trade

Hi Heather

It looks as though you have the correct parents for Thomas. I have found a Thomas in 1841 Ancoats, (transcribed as Hale, although it looks like Hall) with parents John, shoemaker, mother Hannah, Charles and two siblings with same names as two of Thomas' daughters.

HO107, Piece: 576, Book 1, Folio 9, Page 13.

Thanks Heather although Martha was 6 in 1841. :-\

I have been trying to find members of the family in 1851 but no luck yet.
