Sgt Harold McMahon
« on: Tuesday 06 November 12 19:18 GMT (UK) »
The following entry appeared in the Niagara Falls New York Gazette - Thursday September 25th 1947 regarding the marriage of my Grandfather, John McMahon, to Cora Cust.

"McMahon - Cust

The marriage of Mrs Cora Cust and Mr John McMahon was recently solemnized at Our Lady of Lebanon.
Bride was given in marriage by her nephew Mr Harold McMahon of Barrie. Ontario."

Harold McMahon is not related to John McMahon.

There was another mention of Harold in the Niagara Falls New York Gazette on Wednesday November 1st 1944.

"Sergeant Harold McMahon and Mrs. McMahon left last night for Camp Gordon, Ont, after spending Sergeant McMahon's ten-day leave with his aunt, Mrs. Cora Cust of Memorial Parkway."

The Camp's name is actually, Camp Borden which is near Barrie, Ontario.  I am looking for information regarding Sgt Harold McMahon such as his date and place of birth.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi DCO,

Have you contacted Camp Borden to see if they have any records of your grandfather that they would be able to provide? I know the dates for him are still within the privacy restrictions but there may be some info they can provide.

Another options is to contact the local newspaper and see if they can provide info on him - he may have retired in the area and old phone directories may provide location of him of rellies.

Hope this helps,

Since Barrie is a small place and the Ontario population is very mobile, there may be little chance there is still family in that area -- but there are a dozen McMahon listings in Barrie and it would certainly be worth contacting those people to enquire:

Ah. You decided he was actually Hugh and not Harold, but didn't update this thread?

There was me looking at the Harold McMahons at Last Post ... (no Hughs there)

Are you certain that Harold/Hugh was Canadian? Remember that many USAmerican men joined the Canadian military in both world wars, particularly given that the US did not enter WWII until the end of 1941.
