Farm near Battle

on the 1851 census my gr gr grandfather Trayton Christmas ( sometimes without the t) was a farmer of 105 acres on a farm called Canuhide  I think that is the correct spelling. I cannot find this anywhere on old maps and was wondering if anyone else tracing the Christmases knows or has heard of it.  In 1841 he farmed Great Beech Farm in battle. Which today is marked as old barns.

Their children, if they are anyones elses family were Orpha, Benjamin, Richard, Mary, Tilden (mine), Charles, Elizabeth and Thomas.
Trayton was born in Wartling village.

Kane Hythe sounds spookily like Canuhide doesn't it? 

I was going to ask if you have Trayton in any other census and if he is living at the same address (to check spellings and location).

Canuhide (Kanuhide) on old maps 1910, and was at map ref TQ71745 16672 on the B2096 road and opposite the Reeves Wood.

Thanks everyone. Trayton was only at that farm on that census. The  1841 he had a farm called Great Beech (Birch)  at Battle. He died in 1851.

My husband is also related to your Trayton Chrismas via his daughter Mary Chrismas (1840 - 1909) who married William Cramp (1842 - 1894) in 1863.

Yes I would like to exchange information.
My biggest mystery and great big brick wall was the information that Trayton was the child of James Chrismas and Elizabeth. James is already married to Sarah and has a son and has other children after Trayton but I simply cannot find out who Elizabeth is. The verger of Wartling church has sent me all the births and said it is definitely in the records as Elizabeth. Have you solved this one? I did visit the Keep records office and still found the same but no Elizabeth.

On ancestry.com, there is only one tree that has Elizabeth listed as Trayton's mother. All others cite Sarah.
Familysearch.org also has Elizabeth listed as his mother at the time of his Christening, but no marriage.
Have you sighted the marriage records of Trayton and Mary Ann? Does it contain his mother's name? I have been unable to get a copy of the marriage certificate as central records apparently only commenced in 1837, after their marriage. I live in Australia, so am unable to access the actual records. I have to rely on the internet.
Could Trayton have been born "on the side" (i.e. illegitimate) whilst his father was married to Sarah? It is the only explanation I can come up with.
