Hi Pat,
James and Hugh are the ones I'm related to. The family must have moved to Glasgow soon after Hugh's birth as they all appear in the 1861 Scottish census. James and Margaret Curran also had two daughters, Susan b1862 d1864 and Eliza Ann b1865 d1865. Margaret died in Oct 1868, from breast cancer, aged 32 years.
I can trace brothers James and Hugh all the way from there but I'm a bit stuck with their father James. He is still alive and living with Hugh (never remarried it seems) and his family in 1891 but he is not living with them in 1901. I can't make out his age on the 1891 register and his age is not consistent in previous census records. It does look as though he was about 10 years older than his wife Margaret but regardless, I cannot find any record of his death in Scotland.
I have tried searching for his birth in Irish records and/or getting more information about his marriage in 1856 but to no avail. I'd like to know when he was born and the names of his parents. Did he have any siblings?
Regards his wife Margaret, I have names of her parents from her death certificate. They are James Donnelly and Margaret Dowdell but again, I'm struggling to find their origin in Ireland. At the time of Margaret's death in 1868, her father is deceased, listed as an agricultural labourer and her mother is still alive. I've searched for her parents in Scotland on the basis that they may have moved there when she did. Perhaps she had siblings who remained in Ireland?
Thanks so much for your help. I'd have struggled to get this far without your input.
