Have now got Beatrices marriage certificate, her father was John Henry Dickenson.
Now I am wondering if I have the right marriage, Henry Dickenson married a Mary Reek in 1885 but their first child George was born in 1882 in Arnold. In the 1891 census Mary birthplace is Balderton but in the 1901 its Arnold. I did find a Mary Reek born in Balderton in 1861/71 census's but have been unable to fin d her in 1881 census.
Think I need more research on this one

Beatrice's birth certificate would give her mother's maiden name

Have just got Beatrices birth certificate, her mother was Mary Reek.
On her birth certificate her fathers name was just Henry Dickinson but on her marriage certificate he is down as John Henry Dickinson, is this unusual, do you not have to put a full name on a certificate?

On certificates whatever name they gave was entered -no proof had to be given
Very often middle names were used instead of fornames - the Dickensen family seemed to do that -one of the daughters seemed to be known by her middle name .

My grandmother's 2nd husband had 4 forenames and then his surname tagged on to it - he married the first time using his 1st & 3rd name, he married my Gran using 3 of his 4 forenames - his death reg is in his 2nd and 3rd names - but he was always known by a shortened version of his 2nd name !!! His 9 siblings all had more than one forename and they all used different forenames on certificates.
I would never have sorted them out had I not found original certificates in my father's attic!!!!
