Help with Dating Please - Glasgow
« on: Friday 02 November 12 15:29 GMT (UK) »
The reverse of this photo card indicates it was taken/produced by the Ivy Photo Co., 21 Argyle Street, Glasgow.

I hope someone out there might be able to provide a range of dates or a guess about her age at the time the photo was taken.

Thanks,

The fashion for masculine shirt & tie became popular in the 1890's however this is later.
The hat is an Edwardian style but she's wearing a shirt with a collar bar or pin which is a post war type.
So I would suggest during the later part of WW1.

Treetotal:  Sorry.  All I have is the front scan and a notation that it was a Post Card along with the photographer information.

jim1:  Thanks.  I am trying to confirm this is a photo of a specific person.  If it does date from later part of WWI, this would not be who we think it is.  Interesting observations on the clothing.

I'm basing the date purely on the shirt style which I haven't seen pre WW1.
If you take that out of the equation it could be a decade earlier.

OK I don't like to leave things up in the air so I've had a mooch about amongst what I have & found another dated 1910-12.
On this lady she has the collar bar on the outside of her tie which made it difficult to spot..sound like a good excuse ?
so on that basis around 1910 - WW1.

The Ivy Photo Company were operating from Argyle Street from at least 1912 through to 1920, according to the Post Office Directory.  They were not listed at that address in 1904.
